It’s National Novel Writing Month, and I’ve made it a goal to participate this year. Though I’m a bit behind- the goal is to write 50,000 words by November 30th, which amounts to about 1,667 words a day. So far, it is day 4 and I’ve only written 625 words. Clearly I am right on track.
That said, I’m determined to write every single day, whether I reach the goal or not. If I do, it will be an added bonus. 🙂
This is why I haven’t blogged in the past week or so, as I’ve been mentally preparing the idea for my story. I wanted to have the characters and general plot outlined before I began, but that didn’t happen. Rather, I am learning more about each character as I’m writing, and even after only 625 words, each one is taking his or her own form. I think I prefer this style of writing- it’s as much a mystery to me as it will be to my eventual readers.
Throughout November I will be sharing bits of my novel in blog posts, as well as writing about other things. Aside from NaNoWriMo, it’s also a goal of mine to blog every single remaining day in November, starting today. Hooray for achievable goals and pragmatic dreams!

I’ve officially participated only once..back in 2011 I believe. I lost the drive for my story and I couldn’t finish after the 8000 mark. But that being said, I know quite a few people who have finished and someone who went onto self-publish their book 🙂 Best of luck to you! November is a crazy month for me and to write a novel is impossible..but in the future sometime I will do it again.
Wow! I commend you for even reaching the 8,000-word mark. 🙂 I would love to become a published author in the future; if I could write exclusively for a living and not need a day job, I would be the happiest. I know I’ll get there one day.
I think the toughest part of NaNoWriMo for me is not being happy with what I’m writing. I am always second-guessing lines or descriptions. But the most important thing I need to remember is that editing can come later. A rough draft by November 30th is all I need.
Thank you haha 🙂 I think that’s my dream too, to become a publishing novelist. It’s been my dream for years but I’ve never taken actual steps to work towards it.
For this month definitely just focus on finishing. Because we all know that even if we take care with every single word the first time around, half of it will be changed when we go back for subsequent edits. Don’t lose momentum!! I hope you’ll be able to finish your story 🙂 I think the next time it would be wiser for me to participate once I’ve figured out what kind of a story I REALLY want to write..since the last time it was because I wasn’t in love with my idea, nor did I have an outline to help me go along.

It can certainly be tough if you have no idea which direction you want to take your story. I’ve got a rough idea of the plot, but not much else, and in the past that’s been enough for me to scrap the idea altogether. I’ve had my doubts this time around, and I’m sure I’ll continue to have them, but if I don’t force myself to press on, I may be missing out. And like we both agree on, it’s important to simply write, and worry about revisions later on.
That’d be cool. Really. I might try this out myself.
